Selling Your Home? Spruce It Up First!

Maintaining your property and investing in long-term, energy efficient improvements are always a good decision. In addition to making your home more comfortable to live in and reducing your energy costs, they will add to the home’s appeal when it comes time to sell. Generally speaking, buyers want to avoid major renovations, not only for financial reasons but for time-saving reasons as well.

Investing logically

Remember that your financial investment must remain reasonable in relation to the value of your home and the other properties in the neighborhood. Often, “one of a kind” improvements actually hinder the sale of a home, as they can potentially reduce the number of interested buyers.

If you’re thinking of selling in the short term, focus on improvements that are small but effective: repaint in neutral colours, adjust all of the doors, replace worn or mismatched doorknobs, improve the lighting, renovate high-traffic areas, unclutter storage spaces, install shelves in some of the closets, redo the grout in the ceramic tile, etc. Experts recommended looking at your surroundings as if you’re seeing them for the first time.

Ask your real estate broker for advice

It is possible to refresh your property even with a modest budget. Your real estate broker can provide you with appropriate advice. They will undoubtedly recommend improvements to items that you no longer notice but that could leave visitors with a bad impression. If your decor has a “strong character”, your broker will likely suggest that you depersonalize it.

A beautiful home, inside and out

It’s also important that you take care of your home’s exterior. Potential buyers will be turned off by exterior paint that is old and peeling, or by a neglected driveway or flowerbeds.
