You Cannot Act as a Real Estate Broker…

If you’re selling a property, it’s only natural that you want to promote it. But be careful, as it is illegal for consumers to sell a home in exchange for a reward.

In fact, in Québec, the Real Estate Brokerage Act is clear. Anyone who acts as an intermediary between a buyer and a seller and receives an amount of money in this regard must hold a real estate brokerage licence from the Organisme d’autoréglementation du courtage immobilier du Québec (OACIQ). Whether it’s an amount of money or in the form of a gift or reward, it is illegal.

A violation of the Real Estate Brokerage Act could result in criminal prosecution before the Court of Québec for illegal practice.

If you want to get involved in promoting the sale of your property on a social network, consult your broker. They are there to advise you and inform you of the rules that must be followed.
